What to do if the Linux PHC driver does not work

General

If one of the PHC drivers do not seem to work, please read the “PHC Help” section of the PHC forum http://www.linux-phc.org/forum/

If you cannot find any information, when opening the a new topic, include the following information:

  1. What Linux distribution you are using.
  2. The content of /proc/cpuinfo
  3. The output of “dmesg”
  4. The output of “lsmod”
  5. The output of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver
  6. The output of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/phc_version

PHC AMD K8 specifics

Please not that the current PHC K8 driver does not support undervolting the following AMD processor generations:

  • Phenom/Phenom II
  • Athlon II
  • Turion II
  • Turion64 X2 processors of types QL-XX, RM-xx, ZM-xx.

You can check if your processor is supported by looking up the “cpu family” line(s) in /proc/cpuinfo like this:

grep "cpu family" /proc/cpuinfo

If it says 15 your processor is supported. If it says either 16 or 17, undervolting this processor is not yet supported, but it will in the future.

Use the kernels from the Linux-PHC PPA repository:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:linux-phc/ppa
