iTS AN T3200, Notebook. Toshiba Sattelite U400 15G

Yes iam able to scale from 250 to 2Ghz...But the fan is running all the time...

I post the lsmod... maybe u can tell me which module to unload...

What Ive done :
-Dowloaded the source
-Menueconfig done like described
-Istalled the Kernel
-Restart... and scaling went from 1-2ghz from 250mhz to 2Ghz in 250Mhz Steps, ans fan is running all time in slow.

So i havent got to do anything, after building the kernel scaling went well, but fans running..
The n Ive buidl ur Phc modules, but can load it Message :

FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.28.9-phc001/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): Device or resource busy

If now someone will bring the fan to normal rotation, it will be perfect... maybe other kernel menueconfigs for my notebook needed ?!

hmm, can you give me the output of

ls /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0

and if there is a subdirectory within "/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0" named "cpufreq", can you give he output of

ls /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver

?

I think it is strange that you are now able to set that frequencies ... I hope we can find out whats wrong with your System.

Yes theres the cpufreq directory and theres the file u want, but theres no output, when i try to open it via texteditor, my system says "error, no such device etc" ---> Simple : The file isnt openable.

Did i use the right source ? /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.28 from Synaptic

Its really strange, theres nothing loaded, but i cant load anything, the recource or device is always busy...packages like cpufreq etc. are not installed to.

But fan is still running, setting up my 3rd kernel... but its always this fan problem...booting standart ubuntu kernel, the fan wors well directly !

Maybe iam to stupid... But correct me, the procedure :
-Loading source, Menueconfig,Bulding it, INstall it.
-Reload system, prepare make, make , make install (in phc directory)
-Disable old module, load new one...

Okay up to disabling old module everything works...but pc says, acpi_cpufreq isnt found in modules and
ive got some times that the phc-intel (when i try to load it anyway) that it is in wrong format.

When i ONLY compile the Kernel New, with your Menu Parameters, ive got 8 Throtteling states. Perfect...

All without phc patch, i will be satisfied with it, if it will run quite...

It seems, after new compiling and installing, that the fan is working all time in low mode...

Normaly it was sometimes @ 1GHZ
But now @ 250MHZ its running slow alltime..

when theres a solution for the fan, i will be satisfied

ITs the source in synapic called "with ubutu patches" But ive read here in an topic ive got to use a clean one, from where ? all modules i want to add now

its with any module now...hmmm

With "a clean one" we mean that you should use a source-directory where no previous compilings or rests of it can be found (e.g. if you used that source once before to make a kernel and you did not "make clean" before the new run).

The ubuntu Kernel source should work. If you really want to use a vanilla Kernel (the original, non-distribution one) you can find them on www.kernel.org.

The same regarding a clean source had to be considered with the offtree package.
If you extracted the archive and compiled the module once, you should either delete that directory and extract the package again or type "make clean" within a terminal to be sure it is clean. If not "make" will not make a new module because it sees that there is already everything there. And then it may be that the module does not match the kernel you are running on.

hmm...i dont know why and i dont know how, but after all my kernel tricks, ive got to make a new system

tryin it again... becaus taking vanilla gives ma just like ubuntu, only 4 stages.

Compiling the sources, like u described, 12 stages. It could all be nice, if the fan isnt klling my nerves
settiing up new system, trying again !

I had to install 'kernel-package' package instead of 'build-dep':
sudo apt-get install kernel-package linux fakeroot build-essential makedumpfile linux-source libncurses5 libncurses5-dev

the above command didn't work, I used instead:
make-kpkg --rootcmd fakeroot --initrd --append-to-version=-phc kernel-image kernel-headers

Will the current kernel module work with the new (unstable) 2.6.31 kernel? I'm planning on going to Karmic Alpha, but this is really holding me back.

Sure the next Kernel will also be supported as soon as possible.
You can use the patch for 3.6.30 as well. There are some hunks during the patch process but that is not a problem.
